Gifts of Character – Tact

My reflection today is on the Virtue / Character of Tact. Tact is about what we say, how we say it and awareness of the depth of power in the words we choose. Our words last a lifetime when spoken to a child and changes beliefs as they grow into adulthood. When we use tact, we look for the best in each other, and while telling the truth, we do so with kindness.

Today as I think about how I can speak more carefully, my goal is to inform the truth with plain speech but not in a state of anger or other strong emotions of self-protection. Tact will include leaving unsaid what is not necessary to say or may not be my place to speak. I will consider if the words I am thinking of saying are true, fair, beneficial and building better relationships. The practice of tact helps me reflect on how my words will affect others.
